Work Experience

Daniel began his career as an Occupational Therapist in 2000, working in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he gained experience in stroke rehabilitation, trauma, neurosciences, burns and hand therapy. In 2007 he moved to the Southern Health and Social Care Trust to take up a senior position in trauma and orthopaedics. It was here that he established the hand therapy service in the Trust and led its growth and development over the intervening years. 

Professional Experience
Daniel was the Publications Officer for IFHST from 2022-2025 and he was a scientific reviewer for the IFSSH-IFSHT Congress in 2019 and 2022. In 2021, he completed his three year tenure on the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Research and Development Board.

Daniel works in clinical practice and he has actively engaged in integrating research into his role, collaborating with Universities and other disciplines including fellow allied health professionals, economists, designers, sports personnel and even a magician! He has worked on knowledge transfer with start up enterprises and small businesses in the areas of robotics, software engineering and sports apparel.

Daniel was the winner of the AHP Advancing Healthcare Award for Research and Development in 2023 and the Southern Health and Social Care Trust Excellence Award for Learning in Action in 2018.

Daniel has presented nationally and internationally at conferences and he has published in peer-reviewed scientific journals including Journal of Burn Care and Research, Journal of Hand Therapy, Hand Therapy, British Journal of Occupational Therapy, BMJ: Sport and Exercise Medicine and Hand.
