Work Experience
I began my OT career at a large trauma hospital, in Dallas, TX, USA, where I specialized in the treatment of clients with neurological disorders. While at this hospital I learned about the specialty of hand therapy and enjoyed learning from the hand therapy OT team whenever possible. In 1991 I was selected by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to serve as an OT in Armenia, USSR, where I served on an expatriate rehab team and trained local students to work as rehabilitation therapists on a spinal cord unit. After my 6 month term in Armenia, I accepted a position in St. Louis, Missouri where I began working as a hand therapist. I worked as a hand therapist in Missouri for 6 years before moving to back to Texas. I started two hand therapy clinics in Texas, prior to accepting a position as Clinical OT Education Coordinator and Hand Therapy Fellowship Director at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. I am currently working as a clinician in the role of Certified Hand Therapist for Houston Methodist Hospital at the Texas Medical Center.
Professional Activities
I served 5 years on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), including serving as the President in 2010 when ASHT was the the host society for the IFSHT Congress in Orlando, Florida, USA. Prior to my ASHT service I served for several years on the Board of Directors for the Texas Chapter of ASHT, holding the positions of Vice President and President. I joined the Executive Committee of IFSHT in 2013 as Treasurer. After 2 terms (6 years) as Treasurer, I was elected President Elect and am now honored to be the 2022-2025 President of IFSHT.
Presentations
I have presented on a national and international level on various hand therapy topics, including presentations at the American Society of Hand Therapists Annual Meeting, an Electives course offered by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Annual Meeting of the American Association for Hand Surgery and the Triennial Congress of IFSHT.
Teaching
I established, coordinated and lectured for the Houston Methodist Hand Therapy Fellowship, 2012 thru 2021.
